Welcome to the MET Community and Educational Center Website
It is with great happiness and excitement that the Muslim Educational Trust announces the birth of the MET Community and Educational Center. The MET Community and Educational Center will be the first center of its kind in the metro area to provide a gathering place for the entire Muslim community; it will be a place where people may come together to grow in mutual understanding and respect, helping to make the Portland area a better place for all citizens.
The Center will welcome and encourage members of all faiths and ethnic backgrounds to partake in a wide variety of on-site activities and events, including athletics, lectures, concerts, art openings, research, study opportunities, shopping, interfaith dialogues, and social events such as MET’s monthly potluck/forum, weddings, and other celebrations.
The MET Community and Educational Center will provide a sense of belonging to the community while being a local symbol of our permanent existence as American Muslims. The Center will be an inclusive place for community interaction, neutral and honest forums where varying cultural similarities and differences can be discussed and appreciated. It will also house MET's Islamic School of MET (ISMET - Pre-K - 5th Grade) and Oregon Islamic Academy (OIA - 6th - 12th Grade).
The Muslim Educational Trust (MET) was founded in 1993 with a mission to serve and bring the community together through Education, Outreach, Scholarship, and Recreation and to enrich the public’s understanding and dispel common myths and stereotypes about Islam. MET seeks to serve the growing Muslim community’s educational, social, and spiritual needs in order to develop generations of proud and committed Muslims who will lead our community to the forefront of bridge-building dialogue, faith-based community service, and stewardship of Earth and humanity.
