We are excited to invite you to an important workshop on Estate Planning hosted by Muslim Educational Trust in partnership with the Commons Law Center.
This event will take place on November 6, 2024, at 6:45 PM at the Muslim Educational Trust, located at 10330 SW Scholls Ferry Road, Tigard, OR 97223.
Why is Estate Planning Important?
In Islam, the importance of having a will (Wasiyyah) is emphasized in both the Quran Al-Kareem and Hadith Sharif. The Quran Al-Kareem states in Surah Al-Baqarah verse180:
“It is prescribed for you, when death approaches one of you, if he leaves wealth, that he make a bequest to parents and near relatives, according to what is acceptable—a duty upon the righteous.”
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) also emphasized the importance of leaving a will, stating:
“It is not permissible for a Muslim who has something to bequeath to spend two nights without having his will written and ready with him.”
(Sahih Al-Bukhari)
Having a will or trust ensures that your wishes are honored and that your loved ones are taken care of after your passing. It can help prevent disputes and provide clarity during difficult times.
